Seven Star Mantis for Kids – January 14, 2018

The Luo Guang Yu Seven Star Martials Arts school in Shanghai ran a summer program for kids during the months of July and August, 2017. Children between the ages of 5 and 8 had the chance to participate in daily classes improving their health, confidence, self-defense, and overall physical fitness – all in a fun and safe environment. Classes focused on developing a good base in functional movement and self-defense skills through single person and two-person footwork drills, kicking drills, punching drills, and grappling drills. The children also learned about traditional values promoted in the system including diligence, discipline, focus, and respect.

Perhaps most importantly, Mantis kung fu develops children’s self-esteem and confidence. Their ability to overcome challenging situations improves and they simply enjoy a better, more positive outlook on life. In addition, adolescent youth can develop further social skills and leadership by working together with others.

Many parents are concerned about the growing problem of childhood obesity and the lack of exercise in their lives. Inactivity because of declining hours of physical education in schools or at home is a wake-up call for everyone. There are ways of reversing this growing trend and Seven Star Mantis martial arts is a great way to help them enjoy daily exercise with the added benefits of practical self defense skills while improving confidence and self esteem.
